July 5, 2021 -- Matthew 13:41-43 -- Perfect rest in Jesus

“The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears, let them hear.” (Matthew 13:41-43) ESV

One of the tests army recruits must endure is sleep deprivation. Most of us know what it is like to have a terrible night’s sleep and how foggy and cranky we can feel the next day. But when sleep deprivation stretches past 30 hours or more then there can be hallucinations and great mental anguish which accompanies this. Hell is a place of endless torments, endless grinding of teeth and endless wakefulness of fresh horrors.

Why speak of such a thing? Because today is the day of salvation. Today Jesus calls out: whoever has ears, let them hear the good news of the Gospel. The righteous are those who have found shelter in Jesus Christ, knowing He was punished in our place and our sins are forgiven. Those who run to His kingdom for refuge find rest for their souls, and delight which flows from a life of obedience to Him.

Today is the day of salvation. Today you have the opportunity to obey Him and walk in fellowship with Him that is sweet and filled with His steadfast love.
