September 5, 2023 -- John 16:12-14 -- The Work of the Holy Spirit
/People loved by the Father, in the Spirit's power: Sh'ma ~ hear and obey Jesus!
I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hearts he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
John 16:12-14 ESV
One of the questions that must be asked is this: What is the work of the Holy Spirit? Scripture reveals the Holy Spirit is fully God, He is worthy of worship and praise. That much we know, but what does Scripture teach us about the work of the Spirit?
He is given to me personally (I Corinthians 6:19)
The Holy Spirit makes me share in Christ all His blessings (Galatians 3:14).
The Holy Spirit comforts me (John 15:26).
The Holy Spirit remains with me forever. Bringing to bear in the life of the Christian all the benefits of Christ. (John 16:12-14).
The Holy Spirit gives gifts to the people of God for the building up of the body of Christ (I Corinthians 12:4-11).
The Holy Spirit brings peace to the community in Christ (Ephesians 2:14-18).
The Holy Spirit makes Christ known to believers so that the Word is powerful, and He affirms the truth of Jesus and all His claims.
Our Father in heaven hallowed be Your Name. Thank You for the work of Your Holy Spirit Who leads us in all truth, bringing us ever deeper into relationship with Jesus Christ and with fellow believers. To You, Triune God ~ Father, Son, and Holy Spirit ~ be all glory and honour and praise now and forevermore. Amen.
