September 2, 2022 -- I Peter 5:7 -- Removing the weight of anxiety
/…cast all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you…
I Peter 5:7 ESV
There are so many things which can cause people stress and anxiety. Right now the media is shouting about inflation. Inspectors are at the nuclear power plant in the Ukraine, inspecting damages there while the war rages on. Other stresses can be more personal. Will your children be okay? Will your finances hold up? Can God love me even after all I have done? Does God care about all the things which run through my brain?
Throw all those anxieties up to Him in prayer. He cares for you. The proof is in the prayer Jesus taught His followers to pray. It begins “Our Father”—what a moving expression. The LORD of Heaven and Earth Who by His mere word, formed hurtling galaxies has the power to help you. Because He has revealed Himself as Father, He proves His covenant commitment to help His people in their distress. Jesus, through Whom we are reconciled to God as our Father, taught this prayer to His followers knowing they'd encounter suffering and persecution in the world.
Prayer is not a burden—it is the place where the burdens of our lives are lifted. What a mighty God we serve. How majestic in excellencies and how tender in His great love.
Today’s prayer comes from the Old Testament prophet, Zephaniah. Remember this, in Jesus Christ we are True Israel, all the blessings given to Abraham and his descendants are given in Christ to all Who believe in Jesus for their salvation. It is beautiful.
Sing aloud, O daughter of Zion;
shout, O Israel!
Rejoice and exult with all your heart,
O daughter of Jerusalem!
The LORD has taken away the judgments against you;
he has cleared away your enemies.
The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst;
you shall never again fear evil.
On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem:
“Fear not, O Zion;
let not your hands grow weak.
The LORD your God is in your midst,
a mighty one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing.
