July 14, 2022 -- John 4:13-14 -- Drawing water from the wells of salvation
/People loved by the Father, in the Spirit's power: Sh'ma ~ hear and obey Jesus!
Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
John 4:13-14 ESV
Why is it Christians are so haphazard in sharing their faith? Look at the text and see how Jesus describes what happens to the believer who receives the water He gives,. What a description it is! Jesus is a spring of water welling up to eternal life. His life-giving goodness is a fountain that flows through every part of the believer's life. It is the fulfilment of the promises anticipated in Isaiah “the LORD God is my strength and my song and he has become my salvation. With joy you will draw waters from the well of salvation” (Isaiah 12:2b-3 ESV).
Perhaps one of the reasons Christians are not sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ is they are not drawing up the waters of salvation. They are not reading their Bibles regularly. They are not spending time in prayer and seeing how God is so good and so faithful. If one feeds his enthusiasms, the conversations about it will naturally flow. Consider how proud parents show off pictures of their children, talk about their children’s accomplishments and activities and post a procession of pictures on social media. They are constantly drawing on this so that they have much to say and share. Dear fellow believer, could it be that you are not enthusiastic about sharing Jesus in every part of your life because you are not drawing on Him, filling your heart, imagination and soul with His goodness? It is not too late to start. Draw from the well of salvation--with joy, with persistence and find in Him eternal pleasures.
Hear my prayer, O Lord;
give ear to my pleas for mercy!
In your faithfulness answer me, in your righteousness!
2 Enter not into judgment with your servant,
for no one living is righteous before you.
3 For the enemy has pursued my soul;
he has crushed my life to the ground;
he has made me sit in darkness like those long dead.
4 Therefore my spirit faints within me;
my heart within me is appalled.
5 I remember the days of old;
I meditate on all that you have done;
I ponder the work of your hands.
6 I stretch out my hands to you;
my soul thirsts for you like a parched land. Selah
7 Answer me quickly, O Lord!
My spirit fails!
Hide not your face from me,
lest I be like those who go down to the pit.
8 Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love,
for in you I trust.
Make me know the way I should go,
for to you I lift up my soul.
9 Deliver me from my enemies, O Lord!
I have fled to you for refuge.
10 Teach me to do your will,
for you are my God!
Let your good Spirit lead me
on level ground!
11 For your name's sake, O Lord, preserve my life!
In your righteousness bring my soul out of trouble!
12 And in your steadfast love you will cut off my enemies,
and you will destroy all the adversaries of my soul,
for I am your servant.
