May 22, 2022 -- Isaiah 57:15 -- What I think about God impacts...
/People loved by the Father, in the Spirit's power: Sh'ma ~ hear and obey Jesus!
For thus says the One who is high and lifted up,
who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
“I dwell in the high and holy place,
and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit,
to revive the spirit of the lowly,
and to revive the heart of the contrite.
Isaiah 57:15 ESV
What I think of God
impacts what I think of myself which
impacts what I think of sin
and that impacts what I think of salvation.
Richard Owen Roberts
What a marvelous sequence of thought. The starting place is what one thinks of God. Roberts was arguing that sin, any sin, for example abortion, is a fruit of a society that does not think of God. You can cut away as much fruit as you want. All you are doing is getting at the symptoms of sin, but the root cause of the sin remains unaddressed. Public protests and letter writing campaigns, petitioning government and so on, these are not ultimately effective. What gets at the root of sin—societal, ecclesiological, and communal and private sin? Nothing but an awareness of Who God truly Is. In Scripture He gives His Self-portrait. That is why it is critical to read the Bible—study it, search it out to seek for God, the True and Living God as He reveals Himself. When one's thoughts on God are anchored in Who He reveals Himself to be, all else changes.
I urge you this Sunday, get to a church that preaches from the Word of God. Get to a church which preaches the majesty of God and bows before Him. For the One Who is High and Lifted-up lives in only two places: the glory of eternity and the heart of the contrite.
How lovely is your dwelling place,
O Lord of hosts!
2 My soul longs, yes, faints
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and flesh sing for joy
to the living God.
Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
Psalm 84:1-2; 5 ESV
