February 12, 2022 -- Jeremiah 1:9-10 -- When will we return to Normal?

People loved by the Father, in the Spirit's power: Sh'ma ~ hear and obey Jesus!

Then the LORD put out his hand and touched my mouth. And the LORD said to me,
   “Behold, I have my words in your mouth.
   See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms,
     to pluck up and to break down,
     to destroy and to overthrow,
     to build and to plant.”
Jeremiah 1:9-10 ESV

When will Canada “go back to normal”? There are variations on that headline running through all media platforms. The desire behind that headline is for things to go back to the way they were. People somnambulating through life with the false sense that they are in charge of their lives. Normal is upheaval. Normal is the awareness the LORD God is in charge of all things and it is His pleasure to pick a nation up or to break a nation down. His purpose in all such things is to have the kingdoms and nations, peoples and tribes return to Him.

Consider what is truly happening:
   “for my people have committed two evils:
     they have forsaken me,
     the fountain of living waters,
and hewed out cisterns for themselves,
     broken cisterns that can hold no water.” Jeremiah 2:13 ESV
The message is clear. The people of the earth have in Jesus Christ, living water that wells up to eternal life (John 4:14). Yet people try to drink the sands of evil philosophies and mix it with soothing liquids which are actually the poison of heresy.

In the land of Israel, the dry season is long and very dry. People have large cisterns, that is underground reservoirs which collect rain-water. This stored water is a precious commodity in the dry season. Rather than storing up treasures in heaven, where nothing can destroy the wonders stored up for them, the people have put their treasure in leaky cisterns so that their worthless treasures are endlessly pouring away from them.

Consider this, the person who trusts in the LORD of Glory cannot be shaken. His hope is anchored in the One Who sets up nations, or Who lays nations low. The Father in heaven is the security for the Christian who endures these troubled times. More than this, Father gives the Spirit so that the treasures of Christ are guarded safe within him. When the days of disaster come, the Christian can boldly kneel before his Father in heaven confident that Jesus remains for him the water of life and the treasure guarded safe which can never be taken from him.

Faithful God, You have broken the chains of slavery; You set the captives free; in Christ You have delivered Your people from death in the kingdom of darkness, bringing them into the Kingdom of Light, the Kingdom of the Son You love. How faithless we are. How readily we run to the darkness, positioning ourselves to take hold of old sins and enslaving addictions. Mighty Father, by the powerful presence of Your Spirit within us, show us again and again how empty this all is. Spirit of God renew us in Jesus Christ so that the poison of sin is drawn. Revive us in Jesus, Who is given as the healing water which wells up to eternal life. Triune God, let the light of Your goodness so powerfully shine in us and through us, that neighbours and co-workers, friends and family members will desire the pure, healing waters of life, found in Jesus! Continue to shake the nations, pluck up and break down, until the glory of Your Name fills the earth as the waters cover the sea. Amen.
