October 6, 2022 -- Ephesians 3:20-21 -- Stretching language to its limit to express Truth

People loved by the Father, in the Spirit's power: Sh'ma ~ hear and obey Jesus!

Now to Him Who is able to do far more abundantly that all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever. Amen.
Ephesians 3:20-21 ESV

Here is Sinclair Ferguson’s beautiful reflection on this:

God can do

  • All we ask

  • All we ask or think of asking

  • More than all we can ask or think of asking

  • More abundantly than all we can ask or think

  • Far more abundantly than all we can ask or think

Our ability to ask, indeed our ability to conceive what we might ask, cannot stretch the limits of what God can actually accomplish. Nor is this merely an abstract or theoretical idea. Rather it is according to the power at work within us.
“Let’s Study Ephesians” S. Ferguson, page 95

Is this the God you know from Scripture and to Whom you pour out your heart in prayer?

O God, the True Light of believers, the Eternal Glory of the just, Whose Light never sets, and Whose brightness knows no bounds; grant us to live in Your glory, and to enter into Your eternity; that, as You have brought us through the night and granted us to see the morning, so You may bid us to come to that blessed and everlasting day, where night is no more, and You dwell in light, glorified by Your saints, and adored by all them that believe; through Jesus Christ our Lord--Amen.
