Then He [Jesus] began to denounce the cities where most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have responded long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

Matthew 11:20-21 ESV

God is constantly and continually speaking. The miracles of Jesus pointed out the veracity of the Old Testament. Jesus’ presence revealed the love of the Father made incarnate, that is, made flesh. But the Israelites wanted signs and more miracles—they were fascinated, but not sorrowful for their sins and ready to leave sin and turn to Him.

What a mighty warning that is for Christians today. God’s word is perfectly clear. Yet how many times Christians want extra signs and miracles. The work of Jesus Christ is recorded in Scripture. All that is needed for salvation is contained in the bible. His mighty works are powerfully displayed in His word. Are you responding to the goodness of God in repentance for your sin? Are you reading the Bible aware that Jesus is feeding your soul?

The words of Scripture thrill my soul as nothing else ever can. They bear me aloft or dash me down. They tear me in pieces or build me up. The words of God have more power over me than ever David’s fingers had over his harp strings. Is it not so with you?
