January 7, 2022 -- John 15:23 -- What or Which "God" do you serve?
/People loved by the Father in the Spirit's power: Sh'ma ~ hear and obey Jesus!
Whoever hates me hates my Father also.
John 15:23 ESV
It is impossible to say “I love God” in some general sense; and then decide the Spirit is just some sort of force, but not the third Person of the Trinity. Or to question the full deity and full humanity of Jesus, as if that were an option. Such things are evidence of hating Jesus.
If you take up the name “Christian” you cannot pick and choose from the Bible deciding what to believe and then discard whatever is inconvenient. Jesus explains Who He is, the True Witness to the Father. Later in this same chapter Jesus tells His disciples He and the Father will send the Spirit of Truth who will make this plain (John 15:26).
Fellow Christian, you are a fellow truth bearer. You have the Spirit of God living in you. Every activity of your life either shows you a faithful follower of Jesus or a hypocrite who needs to be on his knees confessing sin and saying, “God, You are right when You say I have done evil in Your sight” (variation Psalm 51:4). But even the one the world calls a ‘hypocrite Christian’ is actually a truth-bearer when he sinks to his knees and confesses his sins. Christians are the people who are aware of their sin and have an even greater awareness of the mercies of Jesus Christ. It is not possible for a real Christian to hate Jesus—He is the One True Hope for all who believe.
Jesus, thank You for the Helper You sent from the Father. Thank You for the Spirit Who bears witness to all the truth You taught. Help weak and wounded sinners find true forgiveness and peace in You. Humble Your people so that true confession brings great comfort to the soul urgently in need of You. Amen.
