August 1, 2021 -- Colossians 4:2-4 -- Please! Pray for your pastor!
/Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison—that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak.
Colossians 4:2-4 ESV
Dearly loved people of God—pray for your preacher. If you desire to gain much from the preaching of the word, pray for the preacher, that the Spirit of God will give words to speak and the preaching is delivered with clarity. If you would have the service filled with conversions and saints who are built up in our precious faith, pray for the glory of Christ to rise among you and that Christ will receive the trophies of His grace—that is, people forsaking the world and turning to Him.
For the Word of God with its glorious truth of the reconciliation that is ours in Christ, for this to roll across our land believers must be in prayer. Pray that God will open doors for the Word and pray for the Spirit to soften hearts, making them ready to receive all that God has in store.
When you are in prayer, you will find yourself drinking in the richness of the Word. It will not depend on the power of (or lack of skills of) the preacher—the treasures of the Word will be opened to you because the Spirit attends the preaching of the Word.
Faithful God, our Father, thank You for preachers and evangelists, missionaries and chaplains. As the Word is proclaimed, so that the glory of Your Son is made known, we ask You, send Your Spirit so that the Word has an open door—open to people and prisoners, open to military and peace officers, open to various wards and institutions. May Your appointed servants proclaim the Word with boldness and joy. Thank You, Triune God, for those who preached the Word to us, so that the Good News of Jesus, took hold of our hearts and led us to everlasting salvation. Amen.
