September 22, 2020 -- John 9:5 -- Jesus the Light of Life
/As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
John 9:5 English Standard Version
Jesus is standing in front of a blind man and He declared: “I am the light of the world”. Seems odd. Until you realize that this light is the light of salvation. In the Old Testament the LORD God led His people by a pillar of fire at night through their forty years of wandering in the desert. He was their light and the One Who directed their steps. In the temple there were lampstands called Menorah. The word Menorah literally means ‘light from the LORD”. Each of the seven branches represented one of the festivals of the Old Testament—the light of revelation from God.
Jesus stood before the blind man and declared greater than his physical healing is the healing of his soul. Jesus is the glory of God in flesh. The man’s physical blindness and his spiritual blindness will both be healed. As easy as it is for Jesus to heal this man’s sight, so easy it is for Jesus to heal his soul. It is beautiful and powerful teaching.
Where are you wandering in darkness? Where are you feeling cut off from the Light and hope? Where do you feel blindness has descended? This passage is for you today! Jesus is the Light of Life. Jesus is the One Who directs you from the darkness of sin and the gloom of the tomb and brings you into the fullness of light and life in the presence of our Father. In Jesus our sins are washed away. The Spirit of Jesus makes the brilliance of Jesus known to you in every place of longing and need in your life so that you will be sealed as sons and daughters of the God Who is your strength and your song!
Jesus, the Bible depicts You as the Light of Life. Oh how I need that Light. Send Your Spirit so that gloom of darkness will be dispelled. Let me walk in the joy of Your salvation and live my life in the glory of Your Light. Blessed are You, Triune God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
